Dreams from Underworld -6 by DaniBabitz Dreams from Underworld -6 by DaniBabitz
Dead Sea , Israel , 2011

Salt , water and Earth - dreams from Underworld .....

The Dead Sea , also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Its surface and shores are 423 metres (1,388 ft) below sea level,[2] the lowest elevation on the Earth's surface on dry land. The Dead Sea is 377 m (1,237 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With 33.7% salinity, it is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, though Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl and some hypersaline lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond) have reported higher salinities. It is 8.6 times saltier than the ocean.[4] This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point.

It's such an interesting place!
I really see a good potential in your photos. If I can tell you, try not to overexpose the ground and the water while overdarkening the sky. :)

Nice one.

Did you ever swim in it? I imagine floating is pretty easy to do.

If the sky lighting was a little darker, the distant hills a little ominous and the water a little murkier, then it would be a great representation of The Dead Marshes from Tolkien's legendary world. Apart from that, good shot. 7/10. :)

Wow. Talk about barren.
Excellent shot, you captured the 'Dead' feel of the extremely salinated sea. Keep it up!

Nice composition of sky and surface, not overly vibrant colours and plenty of detail. :)
One minor criticism about your submission though: if you quote Wikipedia, next time perhaps remove the footnote references, and include a link to the source article. :)
